A new Greenpeace report ‘Licence to Clear’ found systematic violations of permitting regulations as Indonesian plantations were pushed into forest areas between 2000 and 2019.
Greenpeace Indonesia activists brought the reality of the forest destruction in West Papua to the doorstep of the agency tasked with protecting the environment. They set up smouldering tree stumps to mimic the rampant deforestation to demand that national government change its policies and investigate violations that allow West Papua forests to be targeted for clearing by plantation companies.
