Anastasiia Yeva Domani, a 40-year-old trans woman from Kiev, never intended to become a human rights activist.

Initially, all she wanted was to transition from her: to change her gender expression to what she felt was her true identity, that of a woman. But she soon discovered that the legal aspects of the transition were even more difficult than the medical process, especially when it came to modifying the sex in official records such as the national identity card.

"When I tried to change my documents, I experienced tremendously unfair moments, both individually, and towards all transgender people in general, as a Ukrainian citizen, I felt that I should take the necessary actions to start helping other people with everything that involves the transition process and to fight for the rights of all trans women in the country."

In Ukraine, transgender women face all kinds of discrimination, widespread stereotypes and violence, and she Anastasiia did not want to remain silent about this situation.

"For me, helping trans people not feel lonely or vulnerable became really important."

We all deserve to be with the person we love, and to be able to show who we really are without fear of what may happen to us. Having the same opportunities is also choosing who to be and how to live your life.

Let's continue fighting to build an inclusive society that accepts everyone.
