A young boy happily washes his hands in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Handwashing is a simple but effective way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 & many other diseases, keeping ourselves and those around us healthy. Yet, nearly 3 billion people lack soap & water at home.

Unicef is helping to improve access to water and sanitation services in schools and communities around the world, while also promoting important hygiene practices such as handwashing.

On Wednesday's World Hand Hygiene Day, help spread the word that clean hands save lives!

Today is World Maternal Mental Health Day, a day to raise awareness about the mental health concerns for those who have just given birth or are pregnant.

We also wanted to highlight the disparities in maternal healthcare for Black women, who are four times more likely to die during pregnancy or after childbirth. For Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) to be achieved, preventive action is vital within maternity services to ensure all women receive access to safe, effective, quality and affordable healthcare.

It’s African World Heritage Day!

A dynamic continent. A rich and diverse culture. A heritage unlike any other. The cradle of humanity is a driving force for understanding and peace. It fuels our resilience and it lights our way to a brighter day.

The preservation and enhancement of African cultural and natural heritage is a driving force for peace, development, and innovation so we must also remember to protect heritage wherever possible as 41% of African sites remain on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in Danger.

Today, tomorrow and every day, let’s protect heritage and share culture by celebrating Africa’s dynamic legacy.
