Throw back to the 1946 inaugural session of the International Court of Justice at the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands.


Sunday marks 75 years of the International Court of Justice, or "world court", helping to maintain peace and security. It is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, and its role is to settle legal disputes submitted by countries and to give advisory opinions on legal questions.


The Court is composed of 15 judges and since its establishment, more than 175 different cases have been submitted.
