“I want to be a lawyer when I grow up, because I feel I didn’t have any rights, because I didn’t get justice.”
-Salwa (name changed), 14 years old
Survivor of gender based violence.
The six-year war in Yemen has exacerbated already high levels of violence against women. Additionally, about 66% of the population is in need of humanitarian assistance, and food insecurity is rising, including a very high risk for famine.
Women's groups, with support from UNFPA (United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency) and other partners, are helping survivors of gender-based violence access safe spaces, psychosocial services and opportunities for income-generating activities.
