Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (Ogwashi-Uku, June 13, 1954) is a Nigerian economist and international development expert. On February 15, 2021, she was appointed General Director of the World Trade Organization, assuming the functions on March 1, 2021, being the first woman to assume the position.

She is a member of the boards of directors of Standard Chartered Bank, Twitter, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), and African Risk Capacity (ARC).

In 2003 she became Nigeria's first female Finance Minister (2003-2006, 2011-2015) under the presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo and the Goodluck Jonathan presidency.

She has also been Managing Director of the World Bank (2007-2011), an organization in which she has worked for 25 years.


Women like Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala are proof that we can achieve whatever we strive for, and that we can accomplish our goals and still help others.
