On March 1, Colombia was the first country in the Americas to receive a shipment of COVID-19 vaccines through COVAX.
Vulnerable indigenous communities in the Amazon region are among the priority groups for COVID19 vaccination in the country. Health teams are going door-to-door and setting up “pop-up” vaccination sites in order to quickly vaccinate as many eligible community residents as possible.
COVAX, the vaccines pillar of the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, is co-led by the WHO, CEPI and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance– working in partnership with developed and developing country vaccine manufacturers, UNICEF, World Bank, and others.
