Breaking Barriers

Mikayla Holmgren, 26, has already made history, and she's hoping to do it again.

Mikayla became the first woman with Down syndrome to compete in a Miss USA pageant in 2017 when she entered Minnesota's competition. But Holmgren is now hoping to cross another barrier by becoming the first female model with Down syndrome to be featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.

Whether she makes it or not, Holmgren says she will continue to spread her message of inclusion.

"Just bring awareness and be more inclusive."
